8 Days in Meghalaya: A Journey Through Nature’s Beauty!

Meghalaya, a small state located in Northeast India, is a traveler’s paradise with its stunning landscapes, waterfalls, and unique natural wonders. Best time to visit Meghalaya:

The best time to visit Meghalaya is between the months of October to April. Blessed with a moderate climate all through the year, every season you have a reason to visit. I visited it in November.

Detailed Itinerary for a trip to Meghalaya for 8 days:

Day 1

  • Arrive at Guwahati airport and take a cab to Shillong (approx. 100 km, 3 hours).
  • Visit Ward’s Lake, a serene lake in the heart of Shillong, it is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a popular spot for boating.
  • Explore Lady Hydari Park, a well-maintained park with a variety of flora and fauna.
  • Lunch at ML 05 Café, known for its local and continental cuisine.
  • Spend time exploring the local markets and shops in Shillong.
  • Dinner at The Shillong Perk, a restaurant known for its cozy ambiance and delicious food.
  • Stay at The Town Arch in Shillong

Day 2

  • Visit Nartiang Monoliths, an archeological site that has a collection of ancient stone monoliths that provide insight into the history and culture of the Khasi tribe.
  • Return to Shillong and spend the evening at leisure.
  • Dinner at Tango Restobar & Lounge, a restaurant known for its live music and fusion cuisine.
  • Stay at The Town Arch in Shillong.

Day 3

  • Take a day trip to Mawphlang Village to see the famous Sacred Groves, a dense forest area with various medicinal plants and the Khasi Sacred Forest famous amongst nature lovers.
  • Also, witness the Khasi Heritage Village which highlights the lifestyle of the Khasi Tribe including their unique culture and traditions.
  • Return to Shillong and have dinner at Jiva Veg Restaurant, a popular vegetarian restaurant.

Day 4

  • Visit Umiam Lake, the largest manmade lake of northeast India where one can indulge in water activities.
  • Reach Tyrna Village, the starting point of your trek, hike through the lush green fields and the cliffs while witnessing the sun streaming through the thick trees.
  • Trek to the Single Root Bridge and Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Cherrapunji, a unique natural bridge made of intertwined living roots, and a popular trekking destination.

Day 5

  • Visit Elephant Falls, a popular waterfall near Shillong named after a nearby rock resembling an elephant.

Day 6

  • Take a day trip to Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia, it offers a unique glimpse into eco-tourism and sustainable living.
  • Witness the 100+ years old Living Root Bridge of Riwai Village, a marvel of bioengineering.
  • Have lunch at a local restaurant in Mawlynnong village.
  • Drive close to the India-Bangladesh border to visit the Dawki Village. It is famous for being home to the clean waters of the Umngot River also known as Dawki River and enjoy boating in the crystal-clear water.
  • Enjoy an adventurous night along with bonfire at Shongpdeng, a riverside campsite.

Day 7

  • Visit Krang Shuri Falls in Jowai, a picturesque waterfall with natural swimming pools.
  • Have lunch at a local restaurant in Jowai.
  • Explore Laitlum Canyon, a scenic canyon with stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
  • Return to Shillong and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 8
