Restaurant Baccarat – Imagine a room with sparkling crystal chandeliers, white linen tablecloths, exposed brick walls, intimate lighting and playful oversized chalkboards. French designer Philippe Starck transformed the former dining room of art patron Marie-Laure de Noailles’ luxurious townhouse into one of the most romantic restaurants in Paris.
La Cristal Room Baccarat, located on the first floor of the Baccarat Museum in the 16th arrondissement, is also one of my favorite places to take friends for lunch. Heidi from Switzerland and Carolyn and Kathi from Boston indulged in sipping wine from the iconic Harcourt 1841 casks, Baccarat’s oldest, while sampling the cooking style of Michelin-starred chefs Guy Martin and Adrien Manac’h.

I was excited about Cristal Room’s new fall menu and was delighted when Élodie agreed to take time out of her busy schedule at the Paris Tourist Office to join me for a leisurely lunch. After much deliberation and several negotiations with our charming waiter, I finally settled on smoked eel with leek foam and quail eggs for starters. From the moment I took my first bite, Elodie’s news of Christmas lights on the Champs Elysées and the ice rink on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower during the holidays were overshadowed by the wonderful combination of flavors in my mouth.

By the time the main courses arrived, Elodie and I had given up any excuse to talk about the upcoming event in Paris. The City of Light was overshadowed by roasted pork tenderloins and braised cheeks, served with mushrooms, cabbage and Elodie’s lamb, carrot puree, dill, dates and lime juice. Our desserts, Pear Soufflé with Williamine Sorbet and Black Forest Cream Cake with Manjari Chocolate Sorbet, proved equally tempting.
Insider tip: After lunch, be sure to visit the Baccarat Museum. Tickets are free when dining in the Cristal Room. Upon request, they change the language of the film shown in the first room of the museum to English. It shows the steps to make a Baccarat crystal.
Before you leave, visit the Baccarat boutique on the first floor. The place is luxuriously decorated for the festival.
Baccarat celebrates its 250th anniversary with the Crystal Legend exhibition at the Petit Palais. The masterpieces of the world’s most famous crystal makers are on display at the Grandes Galeries from 15 October 2014 to 4 January 2015.

Tonight, the first two restaurants of the Baccarat Hotel and the hotel itself will open in the center. Those restaurants, as well as the upcoming full-service restaurant Chevalier, will feature former Cru and Ciano chef Shea Gallante and former starter Charles Masson of French classic La Grenouille. There is a chandelier bar on the ground floor that serves very expensive cocktails and snacks prepared by chef Gallante. Appetizers range from a basic platter (with homemade pâté) to smoked beef and duck cubes, lobster meatballs with caviar and mini potato rolls. Cocktails, meanwhile, include classics like the Side Car and French 75, each $22, as well as premium cocktails like the La Vie en Rose (gin, Noilly Prat, green chartreuse, fino sherry and orange bitters). liqueur). $24 each. The bar also has an outdoor terrace which should be warm enough to while away the day.
At the same time, the Grand Salon on the second floor of the hotel was also opened today. The restaurant, also decorated with crystal chandeliers, serves breakfast and afternoon tea, as well as Gallante small plates (presumably similar to those at the bar) and cocktails in the evenings. Here’s a fun fact about these cocktails: They, like all of the hotel’s drinks, are served from the hotel’s mismatched 15,000-piece Baccarat crystal glass collection.
The main event, Chevalier, will open later this spring.
